☪️ Quran Chapter 100 The Racers Al-Adiyat سورة العاديات

Updated: Oct 14

Revelation place: Mecca

Revelation order: 14

Number of verses: 11

Theme: Human ingratitude, the power of worldly attachment, and the certainty of resurrection and reckoning.

Subjects: Human Nature · Ingratitude · Accountability · Judgment Day · Warning

Summary:Surah Al-‘Ādiyāt opens with a dramatic and powerful oath:

“By the chargers, panting, and striking sparks of fire, and raiding at dawn, stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust, arriving thereby in the center collectively.” (100:1–5)

These verses refer to horses charging into battle at full speed, their hooves striking sparks and raising dust as they advance at dawn. This vivid imagery reflects discipline, loyalty, and fierce energy.

The Arabs of the time admired these war horses deeply so Allah swears by something they understood intimately to draw attention to a deeper truth.

Then comes the central moral indictment:

“Indeed, mankind to his Lord is ungrateful. And indeed, he is to that a witness. And indeed, he is in love of wealth intense.” (100:6–8)

Despite receiving countless blessings, many people:

  • Deny or forget their duty to Allah.

  • Are fully aware of their own selfishness.

  • Are consumed by love of wealth and worldly gain.

This is not a condemnation of wealth itself but of attachment to it at the cost of moral responsibility and gratitude.

“But does he not know that when what is in the graves is scattered and what is in the breasts is obtained, indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted?” (100:9–11)

On the Day of Judgment:

  • The dead will be resurrected.

  • Secrets of the heart will be exposed.

  • Allah’s knowledge will encompass every hidden thought and deed.

This verse powerfully connects worldly heedlessness with the certainty of divine accountability.

Key Embedded Themes:

  • Striking Oath: Battle horses symbolize strength and loyalty, contrasting human ingratitude.

  • Human Ingratitude: Many deny blessings despite being aware of them.

  • Love of Wealth: A major source of heedlessness and moral weakness.

  • Resurrection and Exposure: Everything buried bodies and secrets will be brought forth.

  • Divine Knowledge: Nothing is hidden from Allah on the Day of Reckoning.

Essence:Al-‘Ādiyāt is a surah of wake-up call and accountability. It confronts the human tendency to take blessings for granted, to chase wealth while forgetting purpose. Just as loyal horses charge into battle with clarity and strength, believers are reminded to live with purpose, loyalty to their Creator, and awareness of the Hereafter.

I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the condemned.

With the name of Allah, The Gracious The Merciful.

(Acknowledge and declare that Allah is the author of the Quran)

1- By the snorting racers (Stallions charging)

2- So, the ignite strikers (War horses strike the rocks and ignite fire)

3- So, the morning (sudden) raiders

4- So, they stirred by it dust (When the war horses charge swiftly, they kick up clouds of dust)

5- So, they centered the crowd ( The Horses engulfing them making it hard to see and spreading chaos and confusion, symbolizing the obedience of the War horse even in grave danger, and the disorder and moral blindness that plagued pre-Islamic Arabia, rooted in their denial of the Hereafter)

6- Indeed, human to their God is ungrateful (Remembers misfortunes and forgets Allah’ blessings, does not thank Him for them, and forgets His kindness. In contrast to horses, though fed and cared for by humans, show gratefulness by fulfilling their duties and charging into danger at their master’s command)

7- And indeed, upon that he (Human) is a witness

8- And indeed, to the love of  goodness (worldly wealth) is intense

9- But, dose not he knows, that when scattered what is in the graves

10- And collected what in the chests (The secrets of the hearts became public, on Judgment Day)

11- Indeed, their God that day is aware (Of their apparent and hidden deeds and intensions)
