Revelation place: Medina
Revelation order:114
Number of verses: 3
Theme: The victory of Islam, the spread of faith, and the Prophet’s preparation for departure through worship and repentance.
Subjects: Victory · Prophethood · Gratitude · Worship · Legacy · Repentance
Summary:
Surah An-Naṣr is often called “the Surah of Farewell” because it was revealed shortly before the Prophet Muhammad passed away.
“When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes…” (110:1–2)
This refers to the Conquest of Makkah a decisive moment when:
Islam was established in Arabia.
The Ka‘bah was purified of idols.
Entire tribes began embracing Islam in great numbers.
What began with a few believers in secret had now become a community of nations.
But instead of celebrating worldly power, Allah instructs His Messenger to turn inward in worship and gratitude:
“…then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.” (110:3)
This is profound:
At the height of success, the Prophet is told to glorify Allah (tasbīḥ), praise Him (ḥamd), and seek forgiveness(istighfār).
It signals that the mission is complete.
The Prophet should now prepare to meet His Lord.
According to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (RA), when this surah was revealed, Abū Bakr began to weep understanding that this was Allah’s farewell message to His beloved Prophet.
Key Embedded Themes:
Victory from Allah: Success is divine, not human.
Spread of Islam: People entering the faith in multitudes after years of hardship.
Gratitude over Pride: Worship and repentance, not arrogance, after victory.
Completion of the Mission: A signal of the Prophet’s nearing departure.
Timeless Lesson: In every triumph, remember humility before Allah.
Essence:An-Naṣr is a surah of victory, humility, and legacy. It teaches believers that when success comes, they must not glorify themselves but glorify Allah. It marks both a culmination of the Prophetic mission and a gentle farewell, reminding the ummah that true victory is remaining humble and faithful after triumph.
Surah An-Nasr marks the moment when Allah’s help brings victory and people begin embracing Islam in great numbers. It is time to praise Allah, express gratitude, and seek His forgiveness, He accepts repentance, and His door is always open to those who repent. The Surah also signifies the completion of the Prophet Muhammad’s mission.
I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the condemned.
With the name of Allah, The Gracious The Merciful.
(Acknowledge and declare that Allah is the author of the Quran)
1- When come the help of Allah and the conquest (Of Mecca)
2- And you see the people entering in the religion of Allah, in regiments
3- So, exalt with the praise of your God, and ask His forgiveness, indeed He was the ever accepting of repentance
